To all my friends on DA...
I have been thrilled and impressed with the art that has been created using my original photos as reference. For several months I have been considering ways in which to show my original images and the art that you have created.
I have decided to publish a quarterly (print and digital) magazine, the target audience being artists and art students whose interest is primarily in digital media. It will be called The Art Reference Source Quarterly and the first issue will be available in January 2015, followed by a new issue every three months. It will be sold online through a new Art Reference Source website I am setting up, and through the Blurb publishing platform. In addition, it will also be sold at a discount to art schools worldwide.
The goals of the magazine are:
• inspire artists and provide them with affordable reference images
• showcase and promote artists who use my images by providing their contact and biographical info
• teach artists how to improve their skills through the use of detailed tutorials.
To achieve those goals, each issue will include:
12 of my original photos printed full page (8.5 x 11) which the subscriber can use as reference in a similar manner to the images I provide online.
12 Showcase images (this is where I need YOU!) showing the work of artists who have used my images. I will be printing the original reference image (small) and your new art (large)
I would also include any information such as your website, contact info, etsy store, brief bio, etc. Even a photo of you if you'd like.
1 or more detailed step by step tutorials, (this is also where i need YOU!) to teach Photoshop and other skills.
Showcase images are intended to showcase YOU and your work, so while there is no fee, you will receive three copies of the magazine for your portfolio and three free sets of my reference images. (your choice of sets)
For each tutorial, I will pay $100.
I sincerely hope many of you participate and help get the magazine off the ground. I think it will be fun and mutually beneficial.
If you are interested, please send me an email through DA, along with one or more links to artwork you would like showcased in the magazine. And, if you'd be interested in writing a tutorial, please also send me a link to the image - but don't send the tutorial until I have decided to include it.
I will also be contacting some of you in the hope that you would consider participating.
If you have any questions, feel free to drop me a note anytime. (via DA please) I look forward to hearing from you!
